Soulful singer Stan walker, a shop assistant from Queensland
entered Australian Idol at the age of 18. Stan spent part of his life
growing up in New Zealand and it was there he was first inspired to
enter the competition when he watched Guy Sebastian performed on the
show. Stan’s only previous public performance before Idol was singing
in church.
Stan describes himself as a naughty school boy during his younger
years. He
was always getting into trouble at school and he experience some very
troubling times both in Australia and New Zealand. He said it was
through god and music that he managed to get through those difficult
periods in his life.
Before Australian Idol, Stan worked as a shop assistant in a menswear
shop and lived in Coolangatta, Queensland with his family. Stan is one
of five children; the whole family is musical, whether they are singing
in church, weddings or parties, it gives the whole family a great deal
of enjoyment. It is this background that Stan attributes to his love
for music and his musical talents.
Stan has always wanted a career in music but was never sure how to
pursue it until Australian Idol came along. From the moment he walked
into the audition room, his life changed. He finally found a path to
the success he has always dreamt about. His soulful voice impressed the
judges, studio audience and viewers at home each week. His incredible
voice got him to the finals to win the Australian Idol tile in 2009.
