Was Carr is the winner of Australian Idol 2008. He
won the competition age 25 but he has been a performer since the age of
15. Before Idol, Wes was a member of a band that released an
album and
singles that charted in the Australian Independent Music Charts. During
Idol, Wes gave a great performance of Michael Jackson’s single
Black or White. The judges were very impressed with the performance
including guess judge, Jermaine Jackson brother of Michael.
Wes grew up in the small town of Gawler, near the Barossa valley in
South Australia but later move to Sydney to live with his dad. It was
in Sydney that Wes started to pursue a career in music. His first big
gig was supporting acclaimed indie band Leonardo’s Bridge, for their
last gig at a famous jazz venue called The Basement. Wes then went on
to have a string of Collaborations with well-known artists in
Australia.
Wes began to teach himself to play the guitar and piano at the age of
twelve. He eventually won a scholarship to a performing arts school in
Sydney. By the time Wes entered the Australian Idol competition, he was
already an accomplished singer/songwriter and musician.
