Alexander Burke won series 5 of The X Factor in 2008
beating boyband JLS in the grand final. Alexander started singing when
she was five years old. She was coached by her mother who is a former
member of the group Soul II Soul. Alexandra is no stranger to
TV
cameras and spotlights; at the age of twelve she entered the TV talent
show ‘Star for a Night’ but on that occasion she did not win the show.
If at first you don’t succeed, try again. That is what Alexandra Burke
did when she failed to make The X Factor finals in 2005. In 2008 she
returned more confident and better and won the competition. The judges
said
she was one of the best talents ever to appear on the television show.
Her debut single, ‘Hallelujah’ sold over 100,000 copies in one day,
making it the fasting selling single in a 24 hour period in the UK.
Since leaving school, Alexandra has pursed a career in music. Before
the X Factor, she worked at weekends in clubs as a singer. Alexandra
also went on tour with “young Voices”, a charity that raises money for
children with Leukemia.
In 2005 Alexandra made it through to the judge’s homes stage of the
competition. She was in Louis Walsh category but he did not put her
through to the live finals because he thought she was too young for the
competition.
