Cheryl Cole first came to the public attention when she
auditioned for a place in a girl band to be created by the ITV reality
television show PopStars The Rivals in 2000. She went on to secure a
place in the band known as Girls Aloud at the end of the show. The
group then went head to head with the boy band One True Voice created
on the same show, to see who would be at number one in the UK Christmas
charts that year. Girls aloud secured the number one spot with One True
Voice at number two.
Girls Aloud went on to become one of the few UK reality television acts
to achieve continued chart success. Cheryl married the Chelsea and
England football player Ashley Cole in 2006. In 2008 she replaced
Sharon Osborne as a judge on The X Factor where Ashley is often present
in the audience. In 2009 Cheryl released her debut solo album 3 Words.
This year Cheryl selected singer Will Young as her assistant to select
the best three boys from the boy’s category to go forward to the X
Factor live finals.
Will was the winner of the first series of Pop Idol, beating
the series favourite Gareth Gates by a narrow margin. He became noticed
on the show following an argument with Simon Cowell who criticised one
of his
performances.
Since leaving the Pop Idol, Will has had phenomenal chart success with
