Kieran, who was one of the last acts to make the final after securing the public vote on Friday Night, turned in a dazzling display performing Wipeout , a tune recorded by The Surfaris that also featured in the films Flipper and Dirty Dancing.

Kieran Gaffney has fought harder than most contestants to win his place in the final. He first auditioned for the show in 2009 where he impressed the judges and the audience, but narrowly missed out on securing a place in the semi-finals, a decision judge Piers Morgan admitted: “We regretted.”

This year, Kieran entered with parents Sean and Mandy who make up the family trio, Mixed Emotions. The judges were not impressed.

But Kieran was given a second chance in the show if he ditched his parents.

Judges comments:

Piers Morgan: “What can I say. This country has a habit of giving the youth a bad name. All kids are terrible these days? You showed guts and determination. You’ve got unbelievable talent at drumming, and it’s great to watch.”

Amanda Holden: “You know how much I love you. Those drums were on fire tonight. It was even better than yesterday because I loved the solo drumming thing. I can’t describe it. Yesterday, there was another beat going on. Today, it was just you, and it was fantastic.”

Simon Cowell: “If it was your idea [to do the floating stage thing], it shows you what a clever, young man you are. You are a showman. What I love about you is that you’ve got real passion, enthusiasm. I absolutely really, really like you. That was better than yesterday.”
